14 Dec 2006 - "The Christmas Mission"

"The Christmas Mission"
Christmas Production and Carol Service
Written by the Year 4 children of Mark First School- 14th December 2006

This term the school have undertaken a topic entitled "Finding Out". This has been a lovely topic and as part of this work, the children have been developing their questioning skills. The question words have formed the theme of school assemblies and it seems only right that our "finding out" theme carried forward to our Christmas performance this year.

Year 4 have been writing stories about people who like to find out - detectives! We decide that private detectives tying to solve the puzzle of Christmas would not only offer an interesting angle on the Christmas story but would also provide the children with the important opportunity to enjoy music making and drama.

This year, we tried to mix the old and the new. In addition to our toe tapping Christmas tunes we also included some favourite Carols.
Our Christmas production started with the private detectives in search of the true meaning of Christmas.

They uncovered clues like an angel's feather, Joseph's business card and a sign post to Bethlehem.

The first people they found were Mary and Joseph trying to find a room at the Inn. Year 3 acted out the busy scene at Bethlehem.

Next year 2 were shepherds and angels who entertained us with their wakeup and shake dance.

Then reception created a touching scene as stars and angels sang.

Finally year 1 recreated a great assortment of animals in the stable.

The show ended as the detectives discovered the real meaning of Christmas
- Jesus Christ.

Thank you to everyone who attended the performance, I'm sure you'll all agree that the children did us proud.
